foxgloves

Foxgloves are beautiful plants although highly poisonous being part of the Digitalis family. However, like many plants powerful drugs can be obtained from them, in the case of foxgloves they give us digitalin, a glycoside used to treat heart disease.   This powerful plant has been used for heart tonics since Celtic and Roman time according to Botanist Bobby J. Ward in Contemplation Upon Flowers.
